Another day, another write up about the overall greatness that J.Dilla blessed us with. This time coming from a young producer, who was introduced to Dilla when he was an astonishing 5 years old. Read about TakeF_LightCOB experience after the jump.

TakeF_LightCOB on J Dilla:

My first J. Dilla memory is being 5 years old in the back seat of the car while my dad played Common-The Light over and over AND OVER again. Now, 13 years later I listen to “Like Water For Chocolate” religiously. As a Michigan native, Hip-Hop Fan, producer, & human being the effect Jay Dee has had on my life is huge. Whether I’m just having one of THOSE days, daydreaming about that special someone, Chilling, or catching up on homework. I know a simple scroll to the J’s in my iPod will make things better. Dilla has done tracks for EVERYBODY & all the beats sound different, but you KNOW who it is when you hear it. I am still amazed to this day by the way he programmed his drums & his CRAZY ear for samples. That signature sound along with the amount of classics he has on his resume, makes Jay Dee without a doubt the G.O.A.T. in my opinion. I used to sit back & think about all the would-be classics, that we’ll never hear because of his death. But now I realize that him dying has made me appreciate the music we are blessed with a whole lot more. Its been 6 years, and although he’s gone in the physical form, I truly believe his music will live on FOREVER. So with that being said Happy Dilla Month fellow Hip-Hop Lovers, Rest in Peace J. After using his flow to Occupy Wall Street, Mike Check encourages the youth to use their voice to stand up. Uplifting, and visually the video looks great. Using kids from his home town was a nice touch. Even has a cameo from his mom which is swag. Congrats to her for graduating college @ age(listen to the song). Possibly the last song we will obtain from Brandon Lockheart before he goes away to join the marines. We wish him the utmost luck. I’m under good authroity that music will still be released. All and all we just hope that by joining the military ranks he will be safe and continue to grow as a person and an artist.

Like the above picture states, we all should keep calm and bump Jay Dee. For the third day of A Month Of Donut, fellow TapeDeck writer WhoToldYou goes in-depth on not only how he discovered Dilla, but what he loves about his music. Strictly for the donut lovers.

WhoToldYou on J Dilla:

”I discovered Dilla’s music relatively late compared to most people, but when I did I quickly realised that it didn’t matter if I found out about him 10-20 years from now, such was the forward thinking, blending of styles and ideas his music possessed. ‘Donuts’ truly blew me away and contains tracks that remain at the top of my most played list to this day. It’s funny, when I started digging into his catalog, I started unearthing all of his past contributions to Hip Hop which had previously eluded me, tracks that I had known for years but didn’t connect the beat to the maker. This is another reason why I love Dilla, it was music 1st, and when you heard his name, it was music related, a true musician who took his craft seriously. He may not be here in the flesh, but it’s needless to say that his spirit will forever live on, infused with the breaks and bass lines he so expertly manipulated.”
