Frank Ocean Lands On The Cover Of Fader Magazine

With being one of the only few artists featured on Jay-Z & Kanye’s Watch The Throne, Frank Ocean is climbing the ranks of fame. His hit song ‘Novacane’ has peaked at #17 on the R&B/HipHop Billboard charts. He also has his debut album coming later this year. This is his first official solo magazine cover and happens to be Fader’s Fall Fashion Issue. Check the excerpt from the full feature below:

When he was nine, Frank Ocean’s godfather subscribed him to Robb Report, a magazine for the ultra-rich. Less interested in fiduciary smarts, it’s a catalog of conspicuous consumption, highlighting tropical vacations, invaluable antiques and, as Ocean came to know, really expensive cars. Though he comes from a middle class family, he obsessively read the magazine’s classified ads, fixating on exorbitantly priced used Bentleys and Maybachs. “I would just fall in love with all their cars. That was the start.” Ocean, whowas born Christopher Breaux (and goes by Lonny to friends), downscaled his material desires, and when he was 13, began going door-to-door, detailing cars for cash. “I would bring all my supplies. Literally, it was like a movie, I had a wagon, those long red wagons, like a Radio Flyer-type wagon, and I used to buy my own soaps.”

Eminem & Royce Da 5’9″ Cover Complex’s Bad Meets Evil Week

We just hit you with our June/July issue (featuring Rick Ross & Andy Samberg / Rosie Huntington-Whitely), but it’s never too soon for another innovative Complex cover, right? This week we’ve got a whole lineup of killer Bad Meets Evil content on deck (The long-awaited Hell: The Sequel hits stores Tuesday), and we knew we had to do something different when both Eminem and Royce Da 5’9″ agreed to do a special cover shoot for our week of web exclusives. That’s right, it’s Compex’s first-ever animated cover, built for your browser (and yes, the image was inspired by the classic Bugs Bunny vs. Daffy Duck cartoon). The animated GIF theme continues throughout our cover story (link below), where editor-in-chief Noah Callahan-Bever takes us back to the summer of 1998, when he watched Em and Royce create their classic single. Check back all week for more exclusive features on the Detroit duo.
