A Month Of Donuts: Day 1Featuring @DustyLoops(J.Dilla Tribute)

The entire month of February is dedicated to the late great James Dewitt Yancey better known as J.Dilla. To commemorate Jay Dee we here at TheTapeDeck will be doing “A Month Of Donuts”. Every day in Feb we are allowing different indivuals to express how Yancey’s music has affected their lives. First up is Dusty Loops, a producer out of Toronto that has the uptmost respect and admiration for J.Dilla. Read his exert after the jump. Very heartfelt. Eat donuts and prosper.

Dusty Loops:

Jay Dee has been the most influential individual in my life as a producer. Over the years, his music has helped me mature, grow and experiment within my field while keeping an open mind/ear to everything around me. His phenomenal work ethic, lengthy resume and witty compositions have paved the way for so many artists/producers and yet the legend still remains an unsung hero. Besides a few veterans in the game, he was truly the renaissance man who reinvented himself every couple years and brought a new sound/style to feed the underground. It’s great to see current artists/producer create groundbreaking singles x albums but how many producers in this decade are responsible for create a new genre? Everyone might have a different take on Neo Soul but Dilla was most definitely the spoke on that wheel. The man had every beat-maker step up their chop game, flood the records with the Fender Rhodes and Moog sounds, abuse the claps and damn near had every drummer mimicking a drum machine(?<3)Jay Dee’s contribution to us/music can never ever be summed up in a paragraph, a book or an entire days conversation. However, out of all his magnificent attributes, he was truly a giver above all. He gave us plenty of music, gave us various sounds to rock, several classic albums/projects, countless beat tapes and he even continued to bake us some last minute Donuts before he left that kitchen. This may be the Dilla Month for some but everyday is a Dilla Day for us. It is one of my life goals to continue to spread his name/work to all within my reach and educate them on all he has done. I would like to thank this uncanny human being for everything he has taught me through his work and for continuing to inspire individuals like myself to strive further and break all boundaries. The Light is forever amongst us.
