The above quote is an excerpt from my interview with up and coming artist E-Clipz. Hailing from Detroit,but currently living in Florida the young MC goal is to combine lyrical rhymes that can be enjoyed by the masses. In the interview you will see me and E-Clipz discuss The Monthly Massacre series,The Catalysts mixtape,HNC music group,and much much more. Read the entire interview after the jump.
Yoh:First off I want to welcome E-Clipz to TTD. For the readers who aren’t aware of you and your music give us a small introduction.
E-Clipz:Hello all, i go by the name of E-Clipz. Im from detroit but currently residing in fl. I belong to a group called HNC who are mainly produced by Whenf …. our music in a nutshell , i’d have to say lyrical but still appealing to the commercial ear and to quote whenf “We make that music you dont hear often….music with feeling”
Yoh:Along with you many artist are apart of the HNC group,what does it stand for,and how long have you been apart of the group?
E-Clipz:There are 5 artists and 2 producers well 6 artists lol both producers (me and whenf) are artists as well. Hnc stands for Hustlin N’spires Creativity, and man i been a part of the group since 2004 …from the start. Seen a few people come n go but we’re all like fam at the end of the day
Yoh:In July you released your second solo album “Catalyst” if I’m correct. What can you tell us about that project? Also what about that project makes it a must download?
E-Clipz:It’s actually a promo mixtape ….mostly industry beats n such. The whole idea behind the project was to bring some lyrics out in all honesty……i wanna be one of the of the catalysts for lyrics returning to hiphop so if you like witty / clever lines and good music its def. a must have
Yoh:Dope. So what’s next for E-Clipz? Anything in the works?
E-Clipz:yea i’m currently working on a project with a production team from Sweden on a project or what not. Gonna be ill …. i dig their beats heavy … they actually produced 2 songs from my album “New Beginnings” the intro and the last song titled “Rise”. Aside from that i’m just doing some promo songs and working on this Monthly Massacre idea.
Yoh:Like I stated via twitter,the Monthly Massacre idea is very dope. How did it come about?
E-clipz:Preciate it man…. and i was just sitting here thinking about ways to possibly get some people to take a listen to my music n such. So i thought maybe if i hopped on some of the currently popular artists beats. THEN lol i thought i could involve “the people” and take suggestions and make it a random draw so it’ll end up being more challenging for me incase i pulled someone i wouldnt normally use beats from . The rest is history in the making haha
Yoh:Word! So for the month of September you pulled Meeks mills name who is pretty hot right now. Are you worried about how difficult it might be to write a whole month worth of material?
E-Clipz:You would think so … especially since i’m doin 2 tracks a week for the whole month lol , but nah … in all honesty i need this kind of exercise. Keeps me on my toes and it helps me switch up my style from time to time. So i’m actually looking forward to having to write a whole months worth of material and giving myself a chance to be heard.
Yoh:Any specific artist you want to draw?
E-Clipz:J.Cole , i like some of drakes older beats, nas , i kinda wanna try wu-tang… they’re in the mix allready … that’s all i can think of off top oh mac miller has some dope beats. I’m sure there’s more but i just cant think of’em at the moment lol
Yoh:Mac miller has some really dope production,people rarely credit his ear for beats. Not only do you rap but produce,which one do you prefer and why?
E-Clipz:I concur …. i recently got put on to his music n the beats he picks are pretty dope …. but n e who ,I prefer being an artist. Reason being i’ve been writing for 15 years… started off as poetry for a few years then as i got older everyone was rapping at the lunch table and i felt i could do that too so i tried it out.
Yoh:Word? Alot of artist have similar “rapping at the lunch room stories”. Since it’s so many artist,rappers,MC’s on the scene at the moment,is it hard to get your voice heard to the masses?
E-Clipz:Yea that is pretty crazy lol lunch table seems to get a lotta people into rappin …ha. I wouldnt say its “hard” to get heard by the masses but it hasn’t been too easy . Being the fact there’s a million and 1 rappers who pester people into listening to their music and then when they listen its trash, a lot of people just look at me like “oh he’s just another one of those wack ass wannabe rappers” and that sucks but there are still some people who give me a shot and love the music me and my crew put together.
Yoh:A few solid fans that show true support can really make or break an artist.I f you weren’t pursuing the life of a hiphop artist what would E-Clipz be doing?
E-Clipz:yea… the true supporters are the most importatnt and boy oh boy that’s a hell of a question….. i really really dont know … music is all i’ve known my whole adult life but if i had to chose something…. working in some warehouse somewhere lol
Yoh:LOL you make it sound like when it comes to music it’s all or nothing.
E-Clipz: That’s how i see it. I love making music…and in all honesty (yea i know i use that phrase a lot lol) i dont even want to be “famous” or in the limelight … i really just want to be respected in my craft and loved for what i do
Yoh:That should be alot of artist goals! Who just have a pure love for music,their craft,and the art. Alright man few more questions and it’s a wrap

3. Greatest inspiration that keeps you in pursuit of your dreams?
4. Would your raps save you in a alien invasion?
5. Since you kinda answered what success was to you,what is one goal as a artist you wanna accomplish this year?
E-Clipz:1. Overseas def…. UK , Sweden anywhere over there really
2. There’s a few…. ryan leslie , the neptunes , Lupe , royce , em , 9th wonder, cole … i can go on for days lol
3. My producer/ cousin Whenf is a big inspiration to me and my music.
4. Hell yea… i’d spit a hot 16 for’em n have them all waving lighters lol
5. Some radio play would be nice … along with a lil buzz would set this year off right
