Yoh:Mr. Brandon Lockheart it’s a pleasure to have you back at the tapedeck. What’s been going on since our last interview?

BrandonL:Pleasure’s all man, working and working hard but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Yoh:You have a project getting ready to drop this month what can you tell us about that?

BrandonL: no doubt, White Walls is speacial to me, it’ funny I’ve been unconciously crafting this project for nearly two years. It covers so many different periods of my life, so many stages that I’ve went through. The whole “White Walls” concept comes from me just looking at each beat as a blank canvas that I attempted to paint a story on. It just flowed.

Yoh:So would you consider this project like a journal into the world of Brandon Lockheart? What do you want listeners to take away from it?

BrandonL: exactly man, it’s like a museum. All kind of keepsakes throughtout the place that might not tell you the whole story but put your mind in place to settle it yourself. I really want this to warm the listeners up you know, give my backstory as well as show that I’m an quality emcee.

Yoh:Before the project was completed you added a manager to your team. Did that make the creation process easier compared to being solo.

BrandonL:yea man that was definitly a blessing. Almost two months ago I hooked up with my manager Dan Tynan and we’ve been rolling ever since. He’s really got an ear for good music and it’s great to have someone who can pick up on some of the intricacies that you may miss. The process was crazy though! We had so many great tracks we felt that had to be place on the project but just couldn’t make it, but i feel like we made the best call.

Yoh:So how many tracks are we looking at to be on the project?

BrandonL:17 tracks will be included, originally it was designed to be an ep but it just didn’t feel right at that length. We went through a tedious selection process to get it down to 17 and there were alot others we wanted to include. But I’m hoping everyone finds something they enjoy with these.

Yoh:Will the tracks that didn’t make the album see the light of day? And with 17 tracks are we looking at 20+ features???

BrandonL:lol no doubt man every track will surface in time don’t worry and not to give to much away, there are only two features this time around. I felt it was important for me to show the world that I could stand alone for more than 1 or two tracks.

Yoh:Word glad to hear it. With the release date right around the corner can you at least tell us who handled the production? And possibly your favorite track off the project so far

BrandonL:You have to know my dad came through big again with the production. We’ve been working together since I really got started and it’s fun watching him grow musically, right alongside me. Also I hooked up with an up and coming producer out of long beach, Joe Hodges. The chemistry was great and the two of them combined really gave us a diverse range of music to work with. Favorite track though has to be either the intro track titled “Love Don’t Love Nobody” with this dope Erykah Badu sample or a joint “Never Benn Shook” they really show me growing as an artist I believe.

Yoh:Looking forward to both those joints! Is their any artist/album that you listened to during the process of crafting this project that really inspired you?

BrandonL: Definitly “Illmatic”. In fact I think that album influences me every time I touch the mic. Nas was around 19 or 20 when it dropped, and not comparing the two of us, but I feel my mind might be in the same space that his was.

Yoh:Word! So we covered features, track number, productions, and inspirations. Lyrically would you say this is your best work to date?

BrandonL:You know what, I really want my listeners to be the judge of that. I’m probably best known for writing great hooks and catchy melodies, but with this one I’m hoping to open everyone’s eyes to me as a lyricist. Really tried to pushed the envelope and I’m feeling great about it.

Official Artwork For White Walls

Yoh:Can you explain the white wall cover art?

BrandonL:actually, the art that’s been released is just promotional. The cover art has not yet been unveiled, but the whole concept of the pieces that were given is just the beauty of simplicity. A return to normalcy: substance over swag

Yoh:Can’t wait to listen. Now last time we spoke you were working on a scripture series, and a collaboration album with another up & coming artist Rawb, that was titled F.E.A.R. Will we be getting those after White Walls is released?

BrandonL:F.E.A.R. is a go, let me say that because alot of people have been asking lately and believing it to be dead. Once the dust from White Walls settles we’ll have more details for you. As far as Scriptures, know that parts 4 & 5 are coming very very soon, via my youtube channel.

Yoh:Word! Lastly with the release of this project do you have any expectations for it. As far as do you expect major blog post, a call from nas, maybe a million dollar deal from Sony?

BrandonL:oh no doubt, a major deal with G.O.O.D. music and my face on the $100 bill lol. Naw just kidding man, this project is definitly an ice breaker and if I say so myself there’s alot of good music on this joint. I really just want to be put on people’s radar, I want to gain new listeners and leave everyone including myself a little more comfortable that Brandon Lockheart is someone to watch for.

Yoh:Haha! Best of luck man. All I need know is for you to pitch the date, where the fans can peep white walls when it drops, and any shout-outs that you have.

BrandonL:no doubt everybody look out for “White Walls:A Return to Normalcy” August 29th sponsored by fab4music.com and audiodaze.org avaliable on datpiff.com Big shout out to my manager Dan, my pops and Joe Hodges for the excellent job on the production. Rawb, Trav and the smexy team. “Touch Up Paint” this Tuesday
